What do we want to do sustainably

This article is about changes in a couple of areas we plan to implement in order to organize a sustainable event.

Waste

Waste is the most visible result of every event. However, perfectly managed waste separation is not the only thing we can improve: waste should be handled effectively. We will put emphasis particularly on waste prevention and do our best to reduce the amount of generated waste. Another step is to reuse the waste if possible and only then we can talk about recycling or composting. We are aiming for as small total amount of waste as possible. The issue is mainly plastic packaging of all kinds, disposable tableware, but also needless printing or waste of anything in general.  We are going to buy only what we need. If possible, we plan to rent or borrow equipment and facilities instead of buying new ones or get equipment we can use over and over again.

Water

Given the decreasing volume of groundwater supplies and the drought, reducing the drinking water consumption and sewage water production is our priority. We will try to cut down the waste of drinking water in showers, catering or during cleaning. Usage of natural cleaning and kitchen products is also important in order to prevent from chemical pollution of sewage water. At the same time, everyone will have the use of drinking water sources in every arena to reduce usage of bottled water that creates quite high percentage of plastic waste.

Energy

Just as we are not fans of the water waste, we aim to stop being wasteful of non-renewable energy sources as well. Limiting fossil fuels consumption is one of the essential ways how to reduce ecological footprint of the competition. Therefore, we aim to lower the overall energy consumption and to use renewable resources of energy as much as possible. We take for granted using of accessible technologies saving energy, time and nature and also coming up with alternative means of transport.

Transport

Organizers will prefer environmentally friendly means of transport, mainly walking and cycling, but also using a public transport. The very last option is individual car transport, but we want to at least motivate car passengers to drive with full car or to offer a ride. All means of transport will be supported by high-quality marking of access roads and adequate information of all transport alternatives available in bulletins and arenas for everyone. All mentioned above concerns not only personal transport, but also transportation of organizers, supplies and catering.
